So you want to live longer?

When I began my search to see which country has the highest life expectancy. Italy, Sweden, Japan, Monaco, Israel, South Korea, Switzerland, Macau and Singapore kept topping my search. According To CIA fact list Monaco tops the list with life expectancy of (89.40%) followed by Japan (85.30%), Singapore (85.20%), Macau (84.60%), San Marino (83.30%) and so on. (1) Life expectancy at birth compares the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year, if mortality at each age remains constant in the future. Life expectancy at birth is also a measure of overall quality of life in a country and summarizes the mortality at all ages.

Monaco

Monaco boasts of an extremely rich life style with the highest number of millionaires and billionaires per capita of the world, extreme prosperity may lead to luxury and also we need to keep in mind that they do not have income tax. They also get a heads up because of their Mediterranean diet. They have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, fishes and grains. The state funded health care provides excellent health care to people thus raising the overall health quotient of the people.

Japan

Japanese diets include plenty of fresh fish and vegetables cooked by pan-grilling, stir-frying, steaming and boiling as well as low consumption of meat and saturated fats. They also take lot of seaweed (consuming more than 100,000 tonnes per year) which ensures that they get all the required vitamins, minerals and essential antioxidants. Japanese have a very good health care system and they take their exercise very seriously and help them stay fit till later years of their life. Of course, the beautiful place must be another incentive to live longer. They have a Confucian teaching called hara hachi bu, which means they eat until they are 80 percent full.

Singapore

Singapore comes third in life expectancy, it is because of the efficient health care system. Early detection of life threatening disease, awareness among people for regular check-up and proper treatment of chronic disease also makes the life expectancy go up.  Singaporean’s have a very balanced diet consuming grains, fruit, vegetables, fresh fish and lean meats to help prevent against chronic diseases.

Macau

The subtropical climate, the diet which consists of fresh vegetables and fish plus the state of art health care system, everything plays a part to keep the life expectancy up. Macau with a less population and high GDP is quiet successful. The cuisine is inspired from both Portuguese and Asian  cuisines and they get spices from all over the world and fresh spices has been said to have a positive impact on our body system.

San Marino

San Marino is known for its homogenous culture, fairly high economy and advanced culture.  Their cuisine is quite similar to Italian cuisine. San Marino produces lots of corn, olives, grapes and wheat. Sammarinese cuisine is also a good combination of carbs, veggies, fruits and healthy fats. This region is also known for producing some world class wines such as Brugneto and Tessano.

If we notice the five top place which ranks top in the life expectancy list, couple of things common among them are their geographical location as they are all near to sea thus they have rich source of food and fish, the happiness quotient also come from the beautiful location that they are in. Less population and the health care systems which they enjoy due to good economy and responsibility of the government.
